In January of 2009 following the crash that killed the babies, their mother, and grandmother, six brave and responsible U.S. Congressmembers came up with the Military Environmental Responsibility Act, (HR 672). Sponsor Rep. Bob Filner [D-CA51]; Co-Sponsors Tammy Baldwin [D-WI2], Raul Grijalva [D-AZ7], Michael Honda [D-CA15], Barbara Lee [D-CA9],

The EPA tells Tucson Forward that they don’t have authority over military operations or flightpaths. What happened to this bill that calls for more responsible actions on the part of our U.S. military when dealing with its citizens and the home environment? The answer is NOTHING The bill was basically killed by being referred to death.. to five House committees and two House sub-committees. Our calls to the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness went unanswered. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is a member the House Armed Services Committee.

This isn’t the end of the story..

Corps pushes ahead with F-35 basing plans,
Marine Corps Times By Amy McCullough, Saturday Jul 3, 2010

The Marine Corps wants to station the single-engine F-35 at Miramar MCAS, the same base that failed to maintain the F-18 that crashed into the San Diego neighborhood in December of 2008. The same base where the pilot who erred causing the crash, was stationed. The way the MC is setting it up is by presenting alternatives on the number of squadrons of F-35s that will be assigned to Yuma vs. the number of F-35s that will be assigned to Miramar, thus putting the two communities in competition. This same maneuver could be used for TIA and alternatives considered for the F-35.

Recall that squadrons from Miramar come into train at D-M as part of the Air National Guard Operation Snowbird program.

Guess the Miramar EIS didn’t put much value on the lives of the family that was killed.
