THE PUBLIC MEETINGS FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT OF THE NEW OPERATION SNOWBIRD PROGRAM TO FINALLY BE HELD

In response to a letter from one of the local attorneys who has been following the Environmental Assessment for Operation Snowbird, the Air National Guard program that operates out of Davis-Monthan, Brig. Gen. Christopher Burne states that the much-awaited public scoping meeting would be held prior to September 30th.

A contract to do the Environmental Assessment (EA) of Operation Snowbird was signed with Gulf South Research of Baton Rouge, LA. on September 9, 2010, almost a year ago. The EA is being done in response to hundreds of Tucsonans who requested a study of the noise and safety of the greatly changed program that had never met NEPA requirements.

The nature of what is touted to be a NEW Operation Snowbird program has yet to be revealed. Some fear that it will lead to more F-16s and the eventual F-35. As soon as the date, time, and place of the public meetings are announced, we will forward the information.
